Chief Risk OfficerThe Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of risk within [Company Name], ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The CRO plays a crucial role in developing and implementing risk management frameworks, policies, and strategies to safeguard the company’s assets, reputation, and stakeholders’ interests. Additionally, the CRO is responsible for overseeing compliance and regulatory affairs, ensuring that the company adheres to all relevant laws and industry standards. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across all business functions.
This role is deemed as a Pre-Approval Controlled Function role (PCF-14, Chief Risk Officer) under the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity Regulations. Commitment to adhere to the IAF Conduct Standards is a requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Governance and Strategy:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s risk management framework and policies in alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
- Establish risk appetite and tolerance levels in collaboration with the Board and executive leadership.
- Provide strategic risk guidance to senior management and the Board to support decision-making.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and industry standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and adherence to compliance requirements.
- Prepare and present risk reports to the Board, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee the company’s compliance and regulatory affairs, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and industry guidelines.
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM):
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, market, credit, liquidity, and reputational risks.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize potential negative impacts.
- Foster a strong risk culture across the organization by promoting risk awareness and best practices.
Operational Risk Management:
- Monitor operational risks related to business processes, technology, and internal controls.
- Establish business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure resilience.
- Lead risk assessment initiatives, including stress testing and scenario analysis.
Financial and Credit Risk Oversight:
- Oversee credit risk management policies and procedures, ensuring sound credit decision-making processes.
- Monitor liquidity, capital adequacy, and market risk exposures.
- Ensure effective risk-adjusted performance measures are in place.
Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
- Ensure the company complies with all relevant regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
- Develop and maintain compliance monitoring programs and internal controls.
- Provide guidance to senior management on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Engage with regulators and industry bodies to stay ahead of compliance expectations and emerging risks.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and mentor the risk management and compliance teams, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Develop and implement risk and compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate risk and compliance management into business processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), PRM (Professional Risk Manager), or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in risk management and compliance within the financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, including Basel III, Solvency II, GDPR, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in developing and implementing risk management and compliance frameworks and strategies.
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
